Grenada Railroad Receives 286K GWR Certification

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 14, 2022

Grenada Railroad is thrilled to announce that it has received its 286,000-pound gross weight on rail (GWR) certification.

This is the culmination of many multi-million-dollar construction and rehabilitation projects over the course of three years. Grenada Railroad (GRYR) began its overhaul shortly after it was acquired by RailUSA in 2018. Since that time, steady progress has been made to improve the condition of the line with the replacement of nearly 150,000 crossties and 32 bridge rebuilds. These projects were funded through private investments as well as local, state, and federal grants.

With this certification GRYR can now handle railcar shipments with gross weights of up to 286,000 pounds at either interchange – Memphis, TN or Canton, MS – and across the entire line.

All embargoes and operating restrictions have been lifted as of November 7, 2022.
